Billboards

Sidewalk billboard for the Trump International Hotel and Tower (Chicago) featuring Ivanka Trump

The best way to advertise around town and on busy streets is on a billboard.  Plenty of people pass by billboards whether they are driving or simply passengers inside a vehicle.  The best kind of billboards are the three dimensional billboards that have props installed on the billboard.  Some cool billboards incorporate a moving mechanism that brings lively animation to the advertisement.  People really respond these kinds of billboards.

Skyboard 320

The billboard can practically be placed anywhere and the size can vary.   Some billboards can be placed very high above the traffic and some may be lower in height.  A good billboard give the viewer enough information without being too complex.

Freedom of Speech and Advertising

August 2, 2008

The constitution of the United States gives people the freedom of speech and the right to assemble.  However, all advertising should not be completely protected by the first amendment because some forms of advertising contain information that is untrue.  In essence,  if freedom of speech was warranted to all advertising, instances of false advertising would pass through the open markets and would harm consumers.  Not only would consumers suffer the consequences of false advertising but the competitive markets would become skewed in favor of companies who incorporated deceptive practices in their marketing.  Therefore the protections of the first amendment should be applied to advertising in a case by case basis where courts can decide the validity of the advertisement and the impact it will have on society.

Headlines

August 2, 2008

The headline is very important in advertising.  Today we have a plethora of magazines and news articles that are presented to thousands and thousands of people every day.  As they say “Extra! Extra! Read All About it!”  the stuff is pushed and you discern what you want to see.  The headline either appeals to the reader or it just simply does not.  Therefore, the headline really matters.  In my own view a specific headline will do just fine.

Radio

August 2, 2008

Radio is a very good form of advertising.  Listeners who tune in do so for very different reasons.  Some listeners like the shock jocks and some like the music.  Others, well maybe do not have any real reasons.  The thing is radio is a powerful form of media that attracts anyone.  You wand news all the time then radio can provide that.  Sirus Satellite does an excellent job of reaching many listeners.  According to Ronald Lane in his book Advertising, ” the greatest thing about radio is its ability to deliver advertising to a very selective audience.

Television

August 2, 2008

Each of the segments of the television industry has its special characteristics (Lane, 2008).  Television has all kinds of viewers.  In every important aspect of television business you will find advertising.  Commercials reach thousands of households which help sell all kinds of products.  One thing about television is that it is a costly use of promotion.  As television technology continues to evolve so will the opportunities for advertising.  The future of television will be a more interactive system in which viewers will be able to pay bills, make airline reservations, receive pay per view programming and even play computer games.

Brands and Fashion

August 2, 2008

There are so many brands out there and some are very expensive.  Brand like Levis and Nike are well known and can be purchased anywhere.  I think that it is very normal to have brands that are more expensive than others because costumers have brands competing for their business.  The  brand is suppose to represent the quality and reputation the manufacture has created.  Consumers value the quality of products because those products are trusted to work when they really need them.

Campaigns

August 2, 2008

A campaign is a set of advertising that is suppose to run for a specific lengthof time.  We normally see campaigns in political races where each candidate will run advertisements for as long as necessary until the elections are over.  The length of the campaign can vary form 17 months to about 4 years.  In some cases even longer.  A good campaign will have ads that are similar and that have the same layout.  In addition the campaign must have a completed media schedule, sales promotion material, and costs for everything spelled out.
